Where TiO₂ goes to work
Titanium dioxide is the primary white pigment across industry — prized for opacity, brightness and (in rutile form) durability. Below is where our grades fit, and which to start from for each use.
One matrix for specification screening.
Use this table to build a shortlist from the current Jinan Yuxing manufacturer TDS documents. Values are specification limits—not batch results—and the controlled TDS, agreed sales specification and lot COA govern acceptance.
| Grade | Crystal form | TiO₂ | Surface treatment | Oil absorption | pH | Tinting strength / method | Manufacturer TDS applications |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| R818 | Rutile | ≥94% | Si/Al inorganic + organic | ≤22 g/100 g | 6.5–8.5 | ≥112% vs standard | Plastics, coatings, rubber, masterbatch, papermaking |
| R838 | Rutile | ≥92% | Si/Al inorganic + organic | ≤20 g/100 g | 6.5–8.5 | Reynolds number ≥1800 | Plastics, coatings, rubber, masterbatch, papermaking |
| R868 | Rutile | ≥93% | Zr/Al inorganic + organic | ≤19 g/100 g | 7.0–8.8 | ≥112% vs standard | High-performance coatings |
| R878 | Rutile | ≥96% | Al inorganic + organic | ≤18 g/100 g | 6.5–8.5 | ≥115% vs standard | Plastics, masterbatch, flexible PVC, rubber |
| A1 | Anatase | ≥98% | Not stated in supplied TDS | ≤26 g/100 g | 6.5–8.0 | ≥100% vs standard | Rubber, paint, plastics, papermaking, printing ink |
Specification limit ≠ batch result
The table describes controlled TDS limits. Review the lot COA against the agreed purchasing specification before shipment acceptance.
R818 vs R838: selection focus
R818 has a yellow undertone and general-purpose positioning. R838 has a blue undertone and is particularly suited to waterborne coatings. These qualitative characteristics complement the TDS application scope; confirm colour and performance in your formulation.
Keep tinting methods separate
R838 uses a Reynolds-number requirement. R818, R868, R878 and A1 use values relative to a standard, so those numbers must not be ranked in one column as equivalent results.
TDS listing is a starting scope
A listed application supports shortlisting, not final suitability. Confirm dispersion, colour, opacity, durability and process behaviour in the buyer's formulation.
Evidence basis: current Jinan Yuxing manufacturer TDS documents supplied to TiO2 Source. Supplier source PDFs remain private; request the controlled document with the quotation.
Choose the documented starting grade by use.
These application fields reproduce the supplied manufacturer TDS scope and add buyer-side qualification boundaries.
General coatings
Both manufacturer TDS documents list coatings within their universal application range. Confirm hiding, dispersion, gloss and durability in the complete formulation.
High-performance coatings
The manufacturer TDS positions R868 for high-performance coatings and specifies Zr/Al inorganic surface treatment plus organic treatment. Exterior performance still requires formulation weathering tests.
Plastics & masterbatch
R878 is the plastics-focused grade; its TDS lists plastics, masterbatch, flexible PVC and rubber. R818 and R838 are universal grades that also list plastics and masterbatch.
Printing inks
The current A1 manufacturer TDS explicitly lists printing ink. Approve colour, opacity, dispersion and system compatibility in the target ink formulation.
Paper
A1, R818 and R838 all list papermaking in the supplied manufacturer TDS documents. Select by opacity, brightness, process and cost requirements.
Rubber
All four listed grades include rubber in their manufacturer TDS application field. Compare colour, dispersion, reinforcement needs and processing behaviour.

Which TiO2 grade is best for white masterbatch?
Start with R878 because its manufacturer TDS explicitly lists plastics, masterbatch, flexible PVC and rubber. R818 and R838 are universal grades that also list plastics and masterbatch. Approve the choice in the actual resin and process.
Which TiO2 grade is used in paper?
The supplied manufacturer TDS documents list papermaking for A1, R818 and R838. Compare the grades using your required opacity, brightness, dispersion, process and cost targets.
Is the current A1 grade documented for ceramics or welding electrodes?
Not in the supplied Jinan Yuxing A1 TDS. That document lists rubber, paint, plastics, papermaking and printing ink. Ceramics or welding-electrode use requires separate manufacturer confirmation and application qualification.
How do I choose between the grades for my application?
The grade suggestions on this page are a starting point — the right choice depends on your full formulation, exposure and cost target. Send us your product details and target market and we will recommend a rutile or anatase grade and quote within 24 hours.
